Thunderbird. Has been my email app of choice since Eudora bit the dust. It essentially picked up where Eudora left off and was an easy switch. Yet a recent update changed the way it handles images in stationary and has been giving me some aggravation until this morning.
Thunderbird is an excellent email app running on multiple systems and allowing ease of handling all types of email protocol and many different email accounts, which is my situation. I make use of the stationary feature which allows you to automatically add a signature at the end of your email that is more than just a name or message. It can by styled with HTML, can include images that are attached to your email, and stored as a plain HTML file. It’s a nice feature.
Yet this recent update caused all images in a stationary file to throw an error: “Thunderbird has blocked a file from loading into this message.”. It gives you the option of specifically selecting the image that you truly want in your message with a 2-click process, which becomes rather annoying quite quickly.
Over the past weeks I’ve tried searching for the solution or a way to disable this new method of handling message images but came up empty handed until today when I found this message board post, which ultimately led me to this page.
Simply put, if you’re having this problem as well do this:
- In Thunderbird, start to compose a new message, which will load your signature/stationary with the now broken image.
- Go through the annoying process of telling Thunderbird it’s okay to load those images.
- Then in the File menu click “Save As”, select “File”, then navigate to where your signature file is stored and click on it, and replace it.
That’s it – problem solved. A relatively simple fix yet not immediately intuitive. Hope this helps someone.
