This is a quick update on this topic. Following one of the many FF updates in recent months I noticed my new tab page was back to the old settings.  The first few tabs I had saved were still there, but the columns and rows were not right.

I put up with it for a while not having the time to scour the web to find out why.  My frustration with this recently forced a search and here’s what I discovered.  The tab layout, in my case 5 columns x 4 rows, was still there.  The problem is the geniuses at FF decided to ignore that and set the view zoom on a new tab to zoomed in.  Zooming a new tab page out 3 or 4 steps restored all of my tabs.  The fix for this seems to be in the about:config setting browser.newtab.preload which I had set to true.  Changing this to false fixed the page zoom issue.

Happy browsing!
