Working on a new site, I was wanting a lined, or striped background.  It’s a simple thing to do with an image, and you can keep the image small so the impact on load time is negligible, but I wondered could you do the same thing with CSS?

In short order I found Checkerboard, striped & other background patterns with CSS3 gradients by Lea Verou.  A fabulous tutorial on just this sort of thing and more.

After playing with the settings a bit I ended up with this pattern:

Pretty cool stuff.

Interesting. I learned to make shapes using borders, but this is a new one to me.
